Day at Grace

I spent the day with the youth group from the Antioch United Methodist Church helping at Grace Children's hospital and also helping to build a house for one of the hospitals longest working employees (she has worked for Grace for 43 years).  It was a great coincidence that I was able to meet up with this wonderful group and I am grateful for the experience and the chance to participate in some volunteer activities.

For the Biosand project we have dropped off the water samples to DINEPA and I am anxiously awaiting the results. Tomorrow I will be going to Duchity to spend a few days learning about the countryside and completing a few more interviews. I am really looking forward to this trip. After I get back from Duchity then I am planning to go to Jacmel to meet up with another group that has been studying Biosand filters so that we can compare notes and exchange information.

Yesterday we celebrated the fourth of July with a family party. Needless to say we had a big gathering and many people from the neighborhood and many family members showed up for a good time. I am grateful for the US and our amazing government system complete with infrastructure including running water, roads, and our trash collection services, among other things.

Well its only a week more and I'll be back in the states but in the meantime I will try to soak up as much Haitian culture as possible!

  1. It was TRULY a blessing to meet you as we traveled today...so sorry that we did not have an opportunity to say goodbye in Chicago. We were actually pretty giddy about our delayed flight to Minneapolis that we headed straight to Starbucks! Blessings to you sweet "Kaitie" hehe...and good luck with that Alaskan mountain climbing! :)
